About

High Hand Art Gallery is an artist-owned cooperative gallery located in the High Hand Nursery fruit shed on Taylor Road in Loomis, California. We are about 30 artists from the Placer County and greater Sacramento area.

The gallery opened in fall 2008, after multi-media artist Patricia Sokolowski hired High-Hand Nursery to landscape her yard. Patricia had placed some of her metal work around her yard. High-Hand owner Scott Paris saw the artwork and asked Patricia if she would like to sell her work at the nursery. He had a room he’d been using merely for storage that would make a great gallery space. And simple as that, the idea for High-Hand Gallery was born.

The “room” turned out to be in the historic fruit sheds in downtown Loomis. Once a fruit-packing plant, the building now houses a variety of shops. The gallery is in the oldest section, which was built in 1901.

That first winter, we found that this building is cold—really cold!—in the winter and hot in the summer. And the roof leaked. Over time, Scott Paris put in a new roof, new electrical wiring, and heat. All of the High-Hand artists are enormously grateful to Scott for his support and encouragement.

But mostly: the High-Hand artists are grateful to you, our visitors, patrons, and collectors for making the gallery a success. We hope you will continue to enjoy your visits to the gallery and to this website, and to support of our artists. Thank you.

Is the gallery accessible for someone using a rolling walker?

Yes. There’s a ramp near the other end of the fruit shed, where there is also some parking perpendicular to the street. Then there’s another ramp up to the gallery from inside the fruit shed. It might be a bit of a walk, but Scott has made the gallery accessible! (And apologies for taking so long to get back to you!)

What do you think? We want to hear from you.
