Art glass fusion is complex and often surprising, from the initial layout to the end product of a piece, almost anything can happen. As a result, I find working with glass to be equal part art, chemistry and magic.

Art glass comes in a vast array of colors, patterns, textures and varieties, providing endless possibilities to experiment. Heat is also a tool—low temperatures give more texture, while high temperatures smooth surfaces. On the other hand, the inherent flexibility can also be vexing. Colors can change with unforeseen chemical reactions, and if fired too fast or cooled too quickly, the glass may break or crack into pieces.

In the end, my objective is to create expressive, stylish and functional pieces. I want my glass to be used every day. Striking a balance between aesthetics and function is yet another consideration in the design process. However, it is these infinite possibilities that make fusing glass both exciting and challenging, and, ultimately, just plain fun.
